A beautifully toned cistophorus from Pergamon

MYSIA. Pergamon. Circa 166-67 BC. Cistophorus (Silver, 27 mm, 12.47 g, 12 h), circa 76. Cista mystica from which snake coils; around, ivy wreath with fruits. Rev. Two snakes coiled around a bow case; between the snake heads, ΑΠ above monogram of ΠPY and star; to left, monogram of ΠΕΡΓ; to right, serpent-entwined thyrsos. Kleiner 25. Pinder 122. SNG Paris 1726-7. A well struck and nicely centered piece with attractive dark toning. Nearly extremely fine.
